Here we are at the third Theme Park built at Hollywood Studios in Orlando. Disney World Studios Attractions opened on May 1, 1989, in the beautiful city of Orlando, Florida, the Sunshine State. Yes, Florida does have many days of sunshine yearly. Unfortunately, it does rain here occasionally. Some days it’s a sprinkle and others it’s a deluge. Bummer! And yet, it doesn’t seem to stop the vacationers from going to the parks.

Hollywood Studios, like the other Disney parks has thrilling rides, plenty of restaurants, and at times you can find a Disney character strolling around to sign autographs. There are stores here and there selling pretty autograph books so the little ones can get signatures from their favorite characters and cherish them. The books are themed for girls and boys, so our little guys won’t walk around with a princess book!

Restaurants suitable for all palates can be found in each of the sections of Hollywood Studios some of which will be mentioned here.

Something new is being added. The Guest Experience Team will be opening and it will help guests when they have changes to their bookings, need Fast Pass selection assistance, and various other needs they may have. It will alleviate some of their anxieties so they can get back to enjoying their stay here. The team will be roaming the park and be at different locations so they can be easily found.

Construction sites at Walt Disney World is ongoing and Hollywood Studios is no exception. New attractions are coming up and will be noted at the end.

The Entrance, Hollywood Boulevard

Before proceeding too far into the park, let’s take care of necessities. Oscar’s Super Service has stroller and wheelchair rentals if anyone in your party has a need for one of these. You can also have any purchased products sent here to be picked up on the way out so you don’t have to lug them around all day.

It may be a little too soon to think about eating since you just arrived, but when you looking for an unforgettable meal you can’t beat The Hollywood Brown Derby which is located here near the entrance on Hollywood Boulevard.

Echo LakeFrozen Characters

Getting started with our walk around the park you can find yourself in Echo Lake where there is a “Frozen” Sing-Along Celebration attraction, For the First Time in Forever. Performing are the Frozen characters, Elsa, Anna and Olaf.

Another attraction is the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. As the name implies, it is spectacular and full of thrilling stunts and breath taking performances. As you leave,  stop at the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost to purchase items to remember Indiana Jones.

Any Star Wars fans out there? There is so much taking place here involving Star Wars so let’s get started. The Star Wars: Path of Jedi is a short film about the Star Wars films and is only seasonally opened.

Jedi Training

Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple is a participation attraction. Young ones test their skills using light sabers and fight against the Dark Side. Don’t be afraid to get up on stage. It’s lots of fun.

Feel the force on Star Tours – The Adventures Continue which is a 3-D space flight. There is a height requirement of 40″ to be allowed on this ride. As you exit this ride, you have to pass through the Tatooine Traders which is the phenomenal Star Wars store. Everything you could possibly want will be found here.

Staying with the Star Wars theme there is the Star Wars Launch Bay, a walk-through exhibit and found at the Animation Courtyard section.

Before we leave Star Wars and move on, mention needs to be made about upcoming events. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge ride is scheduled to open in the fall of 2019. A Star Wars Themed Hotel is under construction; no opening date yet.

Grand Avenue

The only attraction in the Grand Avenue section is the Muppet Vision 3D, something the little ones will enjoy. The muppets are so cute older people will like it, too.

Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano deserves a mention for the mouth watering foods of seafood, chicken, and steak, but most of all being at Italian restaurant the specialty is the pasta.

Commissary Lane

Commissary Lane is the mid point of the park, more or less. Here there are a few restaurants and Mickey and Minnie Starring in Red Carpet Dreams where Mickey is in a Sorcerer’s costume and Minnie is ready for the red carpet. Mickey and Minnie are here waiting to sign autographs. Get those autograph books out!

Toy Story LandWoody from Toy Story

This section is dedicated entirely to Toy Story and is the most currently opened area.

Slinky Dog Dash is a family friendly coil coaster taking you around curves and drops through the land.

Alien Swirling Saucers looks like an interesting ride in a toy rocket. Hang on and see where it takes you.

Toy Story Mania will take you inside Andy’s room which is a themed 4-D arcade.

Woody’s Lunch Box is a perfect restaurant staying with the Toy Story theme and features ice cream floats to help you cool off after your meal.

Animation Courtyard

A few attractions are here in the Animation Courtyard. One is the Star Wars Launch Bay which was mentioned along with the other Star Wars attractions at Echo Lake, but here are few more facts about it.


Star Wars Launch Bay


The Star Wars Launch Bay building houses the former Magic of Disney Animation. This attraction is based on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie. As you enter, you can either watch a short film or option to go directly to the exhibit.

Along with seeing the Storm Troopers there are replica props, weapons, and even Anakin’s pod racer from The Phantom Menace.

Continuing on is a section for meet and greet. Characters can be seen in three different areas. Check out all three and see your favorite characters in full costume, of course. One has the famed Wookiee, Chewbacca, another features Kylo Ren and Han Solo may be there, too. The last one has the droid BB8, the troublemaker.

Many replicas can be seen along the halls in this building.

Now that the adults have been entertained, let’s do something for the little ones.Mermaid Ariel

Voyage of the Little Mermaid is a lovable depiction of the movie “The Little Mermaid”. As you wait to be seated the lobby has a nautical scene of a fishing net and fake shark. Once you get into the theater there are the characters from the movie such as Sebastian, Prince Eric, Ariel, and Ursula all dressed in beautiful costumes. Music will be provided by Lily singing one of her favorite songs “Under the Sea”.

A mist of water and sea breezes will have you feeling like you are on the voyage with the mermaid. Everyone young and old will enjoy watching the puppets perform .

Before leaving this area In Character store carries apparel and toys in case you are looking for that something special.

Sunset BoulevardBeauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a live on stage performance set in an outdoor theater. It is a story about a French girl, Belle, who always has her nose in a book and is pursued by the brute, Gaston. Belle is not interested in Gaston and instead falls in love with the Beast.

The Broadway style of the play is spectacular starting with the costumes, dancing, and singing the popular song “Be Our Guest”. This is an attraction your entire party will enjoy watching. It is so heart-warming.

Time to get the adrenaline going? The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror will do that for you. This is a haunted elevator ride jarring you up and down. Be sure to hang onto your things as they have a tendency to fly around. When you get off this ride you will wonder where you left your stomach!

Tower Hotel Gifts has apparel and collectibles to purchase, even Pandora jewelry.

Fantasmic is an outdoor nighttime show where the power of Mickey’s dreams come to life and is set to music.

Several restaurants and shops are here for your shopping and dining pleasure and Hollywood Scoops has hand-dipped ice cream cones. Yummy!

Upcoming Attractions

As promised, here is a little preview of upcoming attractions.

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy is a high-octane car show. It is scheduled to open at the end of March, 2019. It will be located at the Sunset Boulevard venue. Fasten your seat belts. This sounds like it’s going to be a fun race full of twists and turns.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad will be a movie with cartoon clips from the very whimsical Mickey. It will be located in the Hollywood Boulevard area and plans are to open in the fall of 2019.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is slated to open in the fall of 2019 and from the looks of it, even though not finished, it is enormous! We may be escaping to the edge, or falling off the edge. Can’t wait to see this one. Disney always delivers the best of the best.

Spoiler Alert: Hot off the press, Galaxy’s Edge opening date has been moved up to August, 29, 2019!

More Good News: The Star Wars Hotel, which is still under construction, will have a direct entrance to the Galaxy’s Edge.

Animation Courtyard will be adding a nighttime display of the Wonderful World of Animation showing the legacy of Disney cartoons.

The End of The Day

Before we leave, there is one more thing we need to stay and watch, the parade and fireworks. The costumes are gorgeous and the firework are so stunning. It all ends too soon.
