There are so many hotels from which to choose here at Disney World. They have different styles and price ranges to suit everyone wanting to be near all the Disney attractions.

Grand Floridian

Disney's Grand Floridian Hotel in Orlando

If you are looking for the best Disney World Hotel to enjoy your home away from home, your choice has to be the Grand Floridian with its Victorian elegance. Entering the lobby you can hear a live orchestra playing all sorts of tunes even some familiar Disney favorites. Wanting to be pampered, you can hit the Spa or maybe go to the Fitness Center. Having had a long day at the park, but still wanting to see the fireworks, you will be able to watch from your beautiful room instead.

Planning on getting married soon? Have you thought about tying the knot at the Wedding Pavilion? It is adjacent to the Grand Floridian. There are other venues where couples have gotten married. A woman of Italian heritage married in the Italy Pavilion at Epcot and another couple wedded at the newest venue, the Old Manor Oak at Disney’s Port Orleans-Riverside Hotel.

Walt Disney has Wedding Planners to help you with all the finer details of your wedding so you will have a memorable day. Disney has several other wedding venues available so if you have a spot in mind, consult with the wedding planner for help and advise. Almost wish I was getting married again.

Shades of Green

Shades of Green in Orlando

Shades of Green is a Military Resort for active and veteran military members and their families. Although it is located on Disney property, it is a military owned and operated Armed Forces Recreational Center designed for the enjoyment and use of our brave men and women who serve our country to help keep us safe. Shades of green has two plush golf courses on premises and Disney, Universal, and Sea World offer them discounted tickets for the attractions.

Polynesian Village

Aloha! Does a Hawaiian motif interest you? The Polynesian Village may fill the bill for you. It’s not the real thing, but staying here may give you the feeling of being there state side. The decor resembles that of Hawaii with tiki torches. The Village is located on the Seven Seas Lagoon and has boat rentals if you choose to take a boat ride and cruise around the lagoon.

For your entertainment, there are campfire activities so you can roast marshmallows in the evening, fishing, and a jogging trail. In the evening there are Disney movies you can watch under the stars, or maybe a dinner show with fire-dancing and fire-knife performers. Can’t keep your eyes closed for this. Watch your head, people! Keeping up with the look of the islands there is a theater in Luau Cove that includes traditional dance from Hawaii, Tahiti, and New Zealand.

Animal Kingdom Lodge

Animal Kingdom Lodge in Orlando

Animal Kingdom Lodge is a short distance from the Animal Kingdom Park. Too far to walk, but close enough after a long and satisfying day at the park. If seeing all the different species of mammals/animals didn’t quite fulfill all your dreams, maybe you can see some giraffes from the balcony of your room. That sounds like so much fun! Having a room on the first floor will almost guarantee that they will come up to the patio. You probably won’t be able to feed them, but enjoy the closeness. Another one of Disney’s delightful resorts.

Wilderness Lodge

This Lodge has a rustic look of the outdoor wilderness that was inspired by the National Parks of the Northwest. There are nature walks through pine forests and tall totem poles. You will also have that rustic feeling when you dine here. Reservations can be made to dine with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Bikes can be rented if you want to cycle on the trail or you can relax and cool off in one of the pools.

Campsites at Fort Wilderness

Enjoy the outdoors? You are in for a treat staying at one of the campsites! You can pitch a tent or bring your own RV here.

Love horses? They have a few if you like to go horse back riding and take to the trails and check out the forestry. If you like the outdoors and the country atmosphere but don’t have a motor home or tent, you might like staying at one of the cabins. They blend into the surroundings because they are made of pine logs.

Boardwalk Inn, Beach Club and Yacht Club Resorts

These resorts all enjoy Crescent Lake when exiting toward the back of the resort. A boat will take you to Hollywood Studios or Epcot from any resort or if you choose you can walk to Epcot, it’s a pleasant short walk. As you walk around the lake there are many things to occupy your time and allow for an engaging evening. There is the Atlantic Dance Hall with full bar and music, ESPN Club serving lunch and dinner, Jellyrolls Piano Bar, a Boardwalk Bakery, and games to satisfy kids of all ages.

Boardwalk where all the night activity happens

The lobby of the Boardwalk‘s theme is of the Atlantic Seaside and Ocean City era. It has a display of a carousel and a roller coaster model. Three pools are here and one, in Luna Park, will surely peek your interest, it is equipped with a 200-foot-long water slide made to resemble a roller coaster. Some other amenities include a Fitness Center, Jacuzzi or Spa, or a Tennis Court. Your stay here will be all you dreamed of and more.

Driving around Epcot Resort Boulevard we come to Beach Club Resort next. It has the charming elegant style of New England and offers amenities such as the Cape May Cafe featuring breakfast with your favorite Disney character. Stormalong Bay has a life-sized ship wreck, pools and lagoons. Wanting to relax all those tired muscles, how about a massage at the Ship Shape Health Club? Maybe you would like to take a dip in the pool to cool off or is the spa more of what you had in mind.

Having young ones along can present a challenge if you want to go out in the evening. No worries. Beach Club offers child care service so you can enjoy the evening knowing the kids are in a safe environment.

Next stop along the bend of the road is the Yacht Club Resort. Like the Beach Club, this club also has a New England flavor. Many of the amenities are shared with the Beach Club, but there is more of a nautical elegance theme here. The rooms are also decorated with a nautical theme to keep the continuity. A lighthouse is at the end of the pier with palm trees and flower beds leading up to it to enhance its appearance.

But, what makes the Yacht Club resort unique? The Yacht Club is noted for the Yachtsman Steakhouse which is a family oriented restaurant and don’t forget to bring your appetite with you, the food is superb.

Do you have a furry family member? Fido can come along, too, he is welcome here. Best Friends Pet Care provides day care and other pet services.

Disney All Star Resorts

This resort area includes three individually themed hotels. Their names tell you the theme. No guessing here.

Disney All Star Sports in Orlando

As you enter the grounds the first resort will be All Star Sports. Sports of course has a huge football adorned at the front of the building.

Next is the All Star Movies. On the facade of this building there will be a recognizable movie figure. Movies are shown here every night.

Jazz Inn at All Star Music in Orlando

And last, we come to All Star Music. This is the only resort that offers family suites. It has a pool shaped like a guitar and another in the shape of a piano.

Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are Disney’s water parks and are a fantastic way to have fun and cool off. Both have inner tubes and a kids only section.

Typhoon Lagoon has a surf pool with intermittent small waves and six foot waves that are said to be the largest surf pool waves in the world and if you like risking it, they have lessons. Oh my! Go for it. As you speed down the slopes you may see Lilo and Stitch. Say hi.

Moving over to Blizzard Beach you’ll be privy to a tale.  The developer planned a ski resort here, but I guess no one told him he was in FLORIDA. The snow melted (great), but the look of snow capped mountains remain. Blizzard Beach has chair lifts to take you to the top of the hill. You’re on your own from there down. Try the Downhill Double Dipper slide. There are 19 slides here and one of them has a 120-foot drop.

At times, you can encounter Goofy. Invite him to go down a slide with you!

1 thought on “Best Disney World Hotels-Your Home Away From Home

  1. Oh wow! The Great Floridian jumped of the page at me. Just looking at it matched the description. In other words, I knew it offered all of that before I even read the description.

However, the Polynesian Village and Yacht club resorts remind me of resorts that are in Wisconsin Dells and Lake Geneva respectively.

Finally, my children would love staying at the Animal Kingdom resort. I’m trying to get my mother into going back to Disney with the grandchildren. Thank you for the article.
